Project Description
Weymouth Sea Life Centre
“The RTC team at Weymouth did a fantastic job. We had designed the wow factor for what will be the biggest play area in the south west, it was extremely important we delivered the wow factor. RTC stayed in close contact to plan around the weather to avoid delays and completed on time. There were no issues with Health & Safety and the customer was extremely happy with how they conducted their work. RTC always do a fantastic job and have done for many years for Playdale but this site is one of those special sites and we could not have done it without them.”Barry Leahey, Managing Director Playdale
One of our specialist teams has recently had the exciting challenge of installing the new wet pour surfacing at Weymouth Sea Life Centre. The site, known as Caribbean Cove is the biggest adventure park in Dorset and is the second biggest in England. The design was to be bright and colourful so as to capture the imaginations of visitors and encourage games and activity.
Our team used a variety of colours, including different shades of blue, red, purple and orange. The design included all manner of animals found in the sea and along the coast. To ensure the visibility of the mounds light blue splashes and orange fishes were incorporated.
This site also included the unusual feature of wooden sleepers within the wet pour safety surfacing.

The depth of the EPDM was varied from 20mm to 130mm across the site in relation to the Free Fall Height of the play equipment, in line with European safety standards. This is to ensure the playground would be safe for all the children running round and having fun.
Despite this design incorporating lots of different elements and colours our team finished on time and removed all of their materials quickly so visitors could enjoy the new playground as early as possible.
Our wet pour surfacing is low maintenance and proven to be slip-resistant so Weymouth Sea Life Centre can rest assured knowing that the playground can be enjoyed safely and easily for many years to come.
Wet pour can be a great surface for playgrounds, and its porous surface means it can be used all year round come rain or shine. You can learn more about wet pour surfacing here. Or alternatively get in touch to discuss wet pour surfacing, and how we can help you.
